Common Core Writing Rubrics

Aloha everyone! It's Corinna from Surfin' Through Second. I hope the New Year is rolling right along for you and your class.

Today I wanted to share some Writing Rubrics for 2nd grade.

Last year I attended a workshop where we sat down and broke apart the
Common Core standards at 2nd grade for each writing strand.

If you would like more details on the process you can check out my full post {HERE}.

It was a long process, but great to really understand what to look for in a student's writing.

Each rubric is broken down into 5 areas -Introduction, Development/Evidence, Conclusion, Organization and Language Skills (which apply to each strand). Click on the pictures to download each rubric.

I have an editable version that you can grab on Google Docs---> {HERE}

These are a great starting point and you can easily adapt and make kids friendly versions for your classroom.

I hope you find these helpful!

I posted it over on my facebook and instagram pages and folks were loving it! The lovely ladies over at #2superteachers had their students learn their elf name and illustrate a picture of themselves as the elf! How cute is that???? I've got that one in my back pocket for next week, when I miss prep time due to meetings and a concert. :)

Hope these can help save (at least some of) your sanity during this bizzzzzzy month!!!

Thanks for stopping by the Primary Chalkboard!! Maybe I'll see you over at ----

Gifts For The Holidays

Hi everyone,

I'm stopping by today to show you what my students are making for their parents this year. I love giving my students the chance to create a gift for their parents during the holidays. Moms and dads give their kids so much all year so I think it's important to allow our students to thank their loved ones with a special present.

This year, we are making coupon books!

My students are having a blast coloring all their coupon pages and are ready to help out around their homes during their holiday break.

I let them add their own ideas to their books and I think this was their FAVORITE part!
I love the ideas they came up with :)

You can pick up your coupon book for FREE in my TPT store.

Enjoy and happy holidays,

Valerie

Sweet Summer Freebie

Even though it’s beach season, some of my pals are teaching right now. So this little freebie is with them in mind. ABC order is the perfect skill to address vocabulary acquisition.
This little snippet is up in the corner of each page: “CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.L.6 I can learn new words (general, academic, and domain specific). Knowing these words helps me with my reading, writing, speaking, and listening. This will help me get ready for college or my career.”
Sweet Summer Freebie to help young students with Vocabulary Acquisition. Your English Language Learners will especially benefit from the picture of every word ! Of course I am going to be using this baby my first week back as well !(13 more days until school starts). Until then, I am sleeping in, working out, poolside, beach combing, and sweet tea drinking!

Hop on over to my blog to grab this little baby!
