What's for Lunch?

Hey, everyone! It's Cyndie from Chalk One Up for the Teacher and I'm here to tackle one of my very least favorite things about back to school. Grading papers? Nope! Meetings? Nope! Lesson plans? Nope! Nope! Nope!

It's trying to think of something quick and yummy to pack for lunch!

 Do you feel my pain?
If you have some great ideas for lunch, I'd love to hear them, so please feel free to comment below.

I'm bringing back one of my most popular blog posts ever. Simply click on the picture below to head over to read it. The giveaway has ended, but there is still a freebie lunch planning sheet for you to grab.

I hope it helps if you're like me and dread that lunch-packing routine.

5 Tips for goal setting with your students

Happy weekend!  It's Vicky from Teaching and Much Moore, I'm excited to share 5 tips for getting your students to set goals in the classroom!

The first week I started by getting my students 'thinking' about their feelings about school.  I gave them sticky notes { which are always a big hit BTW } and they wrote their thoughts down and stuck them on the anchor charts above.  This was the first step and it really opened up some great peer discussions.

1. Get your students talking - after you have set the 'tone' of your room break them into small groups and get them talking.  Kids like to share ideas/things they are good at, etc.  This will open the door to make them more comfortable with sharing goals.

2.  Have them WRITE their goals down and place them in a TIME CAPSULE.  This can help keep them accountable - keep it in a place to refer to all year.  Cover a pringles can with cute scrapbook paper label it and tie some twine around it.

3.  Have them SHARE their goals with a buddy - either a peer, family member or even a reading buddy.

4.  Have them write it on a cute piece of scrapbook paper or have them make a collage of things they like by cutting pictures from magazines.  They can write their goal on it and hang it in their room to see everyday.  RESEARCH shows that if you SEE your goal every day you are much  more likely to stick to it and achieve it.

5.  Use your classroom space!  Meg from Oh Happy Day did just that and I think it's brillant!  This would work best for older kids but it would be a great reminder to them so they are seeing their goals at home and at school!

I hope these help you get your students off on the right foot for a very successful year!  Good luck with your goal setting!  Happy teaching!
~ Vicky

The Sub Tub

Aloha everyone! Corinna here from Surfin' Through Second. Well it's that time of year when we are back in school getting our routines down.  Things are starting to flow pretty smoothly and suddenly you have a slight tickle in the back or your throat.  As the day wears on you are losing steam quickly and the the first cold of the season has hit!

The dreaded lesson planning to get your sub and kiddos through the day!!  Seriously I would rather just go to work than write plans.

This year with a little prep you can make your life a bit easier.

Make yourself a Sub Tub.  Inside I place all the important items that the sub needs to know for my class.

Throw in whatever you think will help your sub get through the day, especially if you're unable to make plans for that specific day.

I picked this Sterilite Tub up at Target for $5.

I throw in a fun game for the whole class to play.
Bingo is another great alternative.

Stickers are always a great incentive and I leave directions
for the sub to use them as they wish.

The story I Wanna Iguana is fun,
but it also goes along with a great writing activity
from my Opinion Writing pack.

Papers you may have on hand already are perfect to throw in.
This is from my Aloha pack.

Easy literacy lessons from Growing Firsties and Fluttering Through First.

I place a folder in my tub with all the items listed above
to make it easy for the substitute to refer to.
Once it's done I don't have to worry about doing it all again.
I can update my plans and lessons as needed.

Keep the tub near your desk and when that Emergency arises you are ready to roll with much less stress in your life.

I truly hope this year is a great one for you and that you won't need to use your sub tub too often!
